Yoga - Lesson 1

After the short introduction to the fab sport of yoga I will try to raise your interest to this kind of after work activity.

Today’s lesson, where only Jerome and I joint from the FTS-Yoga-Team started with an easy looking exercise. We had to do this exercise about eight times and within the third time, I found out that the word drill would describe it better. But try it yourself and let us find out if you agree.

To prepare yourself for the upcoming activity, sit down on the floor with stretched legs. Pull the toes to your body but try to keep the heels at the ground. When you start feeling comfortable in that position do not rest and straighten your upper part of the body. Now stretch both arms to the front and put your hands together before you lift them up to a stretched position over your head. May be that you cannot hear anymore, due to the fact that your upper arms cover your ears. Do not worry, after you finished this would become your smallest thing to worry about. So stay in this position and if there is anybody near to you please be so kind and ask to take a picture.

I think and hope that everybody could follow so far and is prepared to get in action now. In this case, action means try to move backwards by lifting one leg just little from the ground and pull it back as much as the elongated position of your legs allows you. Repeat this alternating with both legs until you think you moved at least one meter backwards. I know that one meter will become less after you moved back and forth a several times. And that is exactly what you have to do – move forward again to repeat this moving from the front to the back at least eight times. And always keep in mind to stretch the arms lifted over your upper part of the body.

That is it for today and I hope you enjoyed the first exercise. There will be some other exercises coming up during the next weeks. Do not hesitate to put them in a sequence to have more fun.

I feel well prepared for the weekend and the Taroko gorge which is waiting for me tomorrow.
